Saxxur’s Castle

Saxxur’s castle sits on giant twin rocks directly by the sea.
The rocks are so steep, and the climb to the castle so arduous that no one has ever had the desire to conquer it. And that was precisely what its builders, a clan of shady robber knights, had intended. Just to reach the castle gate with its drawbridge, one had to drag oneself up a steep ramp and then cross bridges and crawl through tunnels that led through and between the smaller and the larger rock. And as the knights allowed the ramp, the tunnels and the bridges to fall into disrepair (when people made it increasingly difficult for them to rob, impoverishing the knights) it became increasingly difficult to reach the castle. At some point, even the knights themselves
no longer understood why they were putting themselves through all this and abandoned the castle. And so, over time, the buildings atop the rocks also fell into disrepair and became ruins.
Together with his friends, Saxxur has restored the access ramp, tunnels and bridges and most of the buildings of the castle.
A magical stealth screen, however, makes everything they have rebuilt invisible to almost everyone. So, for most humans of the region, Saxxur’s castle remained an old ruin on a miserably inaccessible pair of rocks that are partly overgrown by a forest so dense and dark that it is called the Blue Forest.
Only a few humans (Siggi and Jo-Jo among them) did Saxxur ever allow to see or enter his castle. Naturally, those who were allowed access were sworn to secrecy. But
By the way: on the smaller of the two rocks, directly in front of the drawbridge that leads into the main castle, sits a rather tiny timber-frame forecastle. This is where the castle hamsters live. And — I almost forgot — the castle has a lighthouse. Right, a lighthouse.

In both books, you will learn more about the castle.
In “The Laundered Ghost” you will even learn (1) how and why the lighthouse ended up on the castle’s courtyard and (2) about the importance of the adjacent forest for the monthly Spookfests of the local ghost community.
