Below are the books’ main characters.

The Humans

Siggi and Jo-Jo

They are siblings and live with their parents in a small village near Saxxur’s castle. They are currently the only humans whom Saxxur permits to see and visit his castle.

Most afternoons, they visit Saxxur at the castle to take painting lessons—regular painting, not magic painting (not yet, at least). Like many kids in that region of the world, their parents let them roam in the afternoons, as long as their homework is done and they are back in time for dinner.

For everyone else in the region, Saxxur’s castle is just an old ruin sitting on a steep double rock. Thanks to Saxxur’s magic, all the buildings, structures, and other interesting things at the castle—which he and his friends have restored and collected—are invisible to humans. Only Siggi and Jo-Jo are allowed to see them.

Of course, Siggi and Jo-Jo don’t lie to their parents about their castle visits and will even tell them more when asked. But, as parents are when it comes to difficult-to-believe things, they don’t believe a word their kids say and are simply happy that they have such a vivid imagination. On the other hand, just to be safe, Saxxur anyway cast a ‘no-one-will-believe-you’ spell to ensure that no one will believe any of his human visitors what they might tell concerning him and his residence.

The Non-Humans

Saxxur
A Goggol and magic painter.
Lives at a restored castle, together with a number of friends.

By painting them, Saxxur can not only bring existing people, animals, and other creatures over from different places to join him at the castle, but he can also paint purely imagined creatures into existence. So, over time, he has painted himself many friends. Some of them have moved on, now live elsewhere, and only visit occasionally. Others have stayed with him at his castle.

The castle sits on a steep double rock. Thanks to Saxxur’s magic, all the buildings, structures, and other interesting things at the castle—which he and his friends have restored and collected—are invisible to humans. Currently, only Siggi and Jo-Jo are allowed to see them.

Ode, Sparkel und Gödel

If the opportunity arises, they’ll play a harmless prank on their fellow residents. Unfortunately, that’s all they can do, because no one at the castle is scared of them anymore.
